As a disabled person looking for dating, you might be your own worst enemy. It's hard enough to find the love of your life, and if you struggle with self-esteem issues, it will be nearly impossible.

Your nerves may eat you alive before you ever go on a first date. Or you might turn away potential mates because you are too insecure with yourself. The key to attracting the right person is to exude confidence so that no matter what your physical handicap, people will know you are worth something and they will want to be around you.   Disabled people dating often complain of a feeling that everyone is looking at them strange. In a sense, they feel as though they are the center of attention, and the attention is decidedly negative. Instead of expressing who they are as a person with confidence, they are inhibited by their impairment and feel that it overwhelms all of their other qualities. However, the truth is disabled singles will stay single if they have that pessimistic attitude. You are what you think you are! Your personality will ultimately matter more than your disability. It is true that your physical limitations are a part of who you are, just as your hair colour or the size of your nose. But that's just it: it is a part of who you are, not all of who you are. If you figure this out, so will everybody else, and you will be all the more closer to meeting Mr. or Mrs. Right. Before you explore the many dating sites out there, you need to not obscure who you want in a mate with how inadequate you feel as one. Is your disability something you're ashamed of; are you trying to hide it? Or is it a simple reality that you've learned to cope with and even used to enhance the quality of your life? For example: imagine you are on a first date with a man or woman you are interested in. If your thoughts are constantly consumed with what you think he or she is thinking about you, your self-consciousness will make the date meaningless and maybe even unsuccessful. You have just missed a wonderful opportunity to get to know your date and let him or her get to know you, from your handicap to your favourite song. Don't ignore you disability, but don't let it be the main focus either! Your imagination about how much people are not attracted to you because of your disability is not founded on anything real and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy if you hang onto it. So if someone's interested in you, take their word for it and know deep down that you are worthy of their interest!
